Istolethesoul FM IWD 2018 - Interview with Rebeka Dawn

On Thursday, March 8th, Toronto pop-up radio station, IstolethesoulFM launched their second broadcast with a special sentiment, or sonic movement. A 12-hour broadcast from 12 pm NOON to 12 am ET, featuring an all-womxn lineup of DJs, hosts, podcasters and creatives from our beautiful city. Istolethesoul FM is both DIY and collaborative, and proves that everyone has a seat at the table. It's a platform founded by friends of the show, Jayemkayem and Paul Chin, who are bringing an innovative approach to radio, while shining a light on the underdogs (like us!). Much like BanTOR Radio's MO of Sonic Diversity & Storytelling, their #IWD2018 edition was inclusive and a clear example of how we can be allies as collectives in the city, and to each other, as we #PushForProgress on a global scale.

Ola Mazzuca of BanTOR Radio was honoured to be a part of this lineup, where she hosted a live interview with local badass and innovator, Rebeka Dawn, founder of Toronto's popular event series, COZY and FUCK IT. Listen to the interview as Rebeka shares insight on her career experiences, growth to date, and the importance of creating meaningful, safe and inclusive spaces in the city.

Ola's note: Wow, what a way to share the space with so many womxn changing the game in, and for, our city! BanTOR VIEWS was conceived through a little bit of trauma and a little bit of stepping into power (the positive, all-serving kind) to create a safe, sonic space for self-identifying womxn to share their story sans judgment, with authenticity and expand on how various elements of their lives are interwoven with their career. Immense gratitude to Istolethesoul and Rebeka for giving me this opportunity to bring the series to life in front of an audience. Let's keep sharing and pushing for meaningful change.
