Rest In Power, King Reign

Toronto's music scene is suffering a huge loss today with the passing of King Reign. The hip-hop artist, interviewer and all-around prolific poet had been on life support following a sudden heart attack on Saturday, June 25th.

King Reign, born Kunle Thomas, was a local MC known for his steady flow, sharp lyrics and positive vibe. A member of JUNO-nominated, Scarborough-based group, Brassmunk, Reign also collaborated with the likes of Drake, Saukrates, Pharoahe Monch, Shi Wisdom, Boi-1da, and Rich Kidd, among others.

He was also the host of a great series on Exclaim! called Sweet 16s, where artists share stories of the best verses they ever wrote.

According to the artist's website, he had a new album in the works. BanTOR Radio spun the catchy, smooth "Happylaidback," from his final release, Sincere, on our February 6, 2015 episode dedicated to self love. Listen below.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help support Thomas' memorial, and to contribute towards the educational expenses of his two children.
