Cash found me, I got cash now
Rexdale artist Nav has to be Toronto's breakout artist of 2016. After sitting in relative obscurity for most of 2015, Nav's sound and notoriety started to pick up with the release of Take Me Simple last November. He followed that up with bangers The Man & Ten Toes Down which further cemented his status as a hitmaker and the city's next one. It wouldn't be long before he got praise outside the city as his sound was taken international by a couple of features on OVO Sound Radio and Kylie Jenner bumping his tunes on SnapChat.
Speculation on where the up and comer would end up has been rampant for a while now with the man himself commenting on it through a verse on 'On my Own'.
Most recently though the speculation has turned to a different direction. On the Metro Boomin co-produced tune Up, Nav shouts out XO top dog Amir 'Cash' Esmailian. Couple that with the fact he's been rocking a 'Low Life 4 Life' chain on his SnapChat and following a bunch of XO affiliated accounts; a narrative starts to form. Its not a big leap to say the people at XO have an eye on him and this would make total sense, as Nav's early trajectory as an artist has resembled that of The Weeknd.
Starting out The Weeknd had a sound that was internationally recognized but the man behind the music remained anonymous for years. Nav seems to be following a similar path and to much success as every track he's uploaded to his SoundCloud (except 'Up' which was posted 2 days ago), has reached over a million listens.
No Toronto artist who produces, writes and performs has made it to such a high platform while remaining a mystery. It will be interesting and exciting to see where he takes his career next.
