June has only begun but our 6ix Tunes playlist is jumpin and has already grown to over 15 tracks! This is officially wedding season but it may as well be EP season as a slew of tapes from Toronto artists like Belly, J-Soul, Dhamiri and Falcxne have hit the streets and many more are promised. It's going to be a hot summer in the city if the quality of music thats been released so far continues.
Below I'm going to highlight some tracks that can be found on our 6ix Tunes playlist, which is updated weekly with the best music released from 416/905.
Louis Val - Women and Weather
Elusive vocalist Louis VAL releases Women and Weather in time for summer. Louis has a habit of removing tracks several weeks after they debut so listen to this one while you can. This Toronto via Brampton vocalist has a dark and haunting sound that is unlike most of the sounds coming out of the city.
Drew Howard - Anuva Wun (ft. Derek Wise)
Fresh off the Social Suicide EP Drew Howard teams up with fellow 6ix rapper Derek Wise for this one. Tight production by Alexonweed has Howard rapping a DJ Khaled inspired hook. I enjoyed the Social Suicide EP and this tune is right in that same lane. Derek Wise also holds down the guest feature.
Nav - Up
Rexdale artist Nav is someone your going to be hearing a lot about in the coming months. The singer/producer has remained largely anonymous but that hasn't stopped his music from blasting out of the speakers every uber on the 401. His flow and production skills have now landed him in the recording studio with Metro Boomin and earned him the ear of XO top dog CashXO. Fans can only hope that an EP or an album is in the works because everything around Nav seems to be a secret.
K. Forest - Guidance (ft. Baba Femi)
K.Forest is really in his own lane. This Brampton artist is bringing his own twist to the Caribbean inspired sounds that have been blessing our radio's as of late. Looking forward to more Afro Soca from him.
Had this track on repeat for a couple of days now. The raw energy provided by TIRPSIXX and Roy Woods on this one is undeniable. Looking forward to plugging this UTU/OVO collab in to future mixes.
